GOOD NEWS, YOU CAN GIVE US MONEY ONLINE!!!!!

The charity we are supporting is ACTION VILLAGE INDIA. Essentially AVI provide funding for education through various projects. Our focus is on AVI’s work with two organisations in Tamil Nadu, close to Chennai, ASSEFA and Crusade.
ASSEFA's programme offers education and funding to help make village life economically viable. This doesn’t sound too exciting but the basic idea is to give an alternative to migration to the cities and the slums. Further to this they provide medical care in rural areas.
Crusade works with women in villages just north of Chennai and aims to give financial and medical support to abandoned women and children. They also work with individuals with disabilities to fill in government funding gaps.
We hope to finish our trip with a visit to a village outside of Chennai, the visit will allow us to show you where your money is going and how it is being used. Hopefully it will also mean a day of rest for us and a chance to sit on a comfortable chair for the first time in a month!
Any amount of money will be gratefully received; the process for payment is very quick & simple. Your donation will be supported by gift aid, for those of you lucky enough to be in the 40% tax bracket you can even claim a small tax break for your donation! If anyone knows of a company that wish to sponsor the trip we will happily sell out and wear branded t-shirts and cover the rickshaw in stickers!

The Details

A couple of us are planning to travel the entire perimeter of India between 25th April and 25th May in a rickshaw, starting and finishing in Chennai, travelling clockwise.

There are obviously a few issues / obstacles in our way:
The route is 8500km long!
Rickshaws have a top speed of 45kph.
The roads are not like England:

As far as we can see (google, yahoo, ask jeeves etc) this has not been done before.  There are rallies from point A to point B but these seem limited to around 2000 km and usually take 2-4 weeks.  This may because it is bloody stupid but we'll find out in a couple of months!  However we have calculated that if we travel for 8.5 hours a day at top speed, don't get lost, stuck, breakdown or have a day off, we can complete in the 30 days!

How can you help us?
Join us?  If you are interested in a crazy trip, suffering from an early mid-life crisis or want to raise some money for charity, let us know.. the more the merrier.
More realistically, we are raising money for one of the Chennai slums so please watch this space and donate a couple of quid - if we die it could even go towards our funeral!
Wish us luck!
